Welcome to 2nd Grade!

My name is Mrs. Krautkremer. I live in Montgomery with my husband and 2 boys. Max (12) is in seventh grade and Eli (9) is in fourth grade this year. I graduated from UW-River Falls in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Communicative Disorders. I recently completed my Masters in curriculum and instruction through St. Mary's University. I have been teaching for 15 years, 13 of which have been in Montgomery. Since I have been in this district I have taught ECFE, School Readiness, Kindergarten, and 2nd Grade. 2nd Grade is by far my favorite! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, gardening, walking, and reading. I am looking forward to another great year in 2nd grade!

A few things to remember about 2nd grade:

*The Titan take home binder is our main form of communication. Please be sure to check it daily.

*Homework is not a requirement in my classroom.  Your child will have a choice to complete math homework at school or take it home as homework.  I do however, ask that you read with or to your child 3 days per week.  There are a variety of ways in which you can accomplish this task.  Such as:

*I can send paper books home at your child’s appropriate reading and interest level (simply send back the book baggie to be refilled upon completion)
*Your child can read a book from his/her at home library
*You may read books to your child which spark rich conversation and stimulate your child’s imagination (research has proven this to significantly help your child’s brain development)
*Research a topic your child would like to learn more about online.  If your child felt inclined he/she could draw pictures or write a summary to share in class.
*Have your child write a story or illustrate one someone else has written
*Take a picture of your child reading to a pet, person, or stuffed animal/doll and send it to me.  I will be sure to share it with the class!
*Anything else you think your child can would enjoy!
*My hope is that allowing them choice will help your child become a lover of books and a life-long reader.

*Each child will have a chance to be our Super Star!  They will receive a form to fill out and return to school.  They may bring pictures to share and 3 items or show and tell.  This would also be a good time to celebrate a non-school day birthday!

*We will have sharing as a class once per month on the early out days.

*Lastly, I will be sending home a weekly newsletter each Friday. In it I will include the highlights of the week, spelling words, dates to remember, upcoming events, and anything else I can think of or have room for!

*Thank you for sharing your child with me this year!
