Dear Students and Families,
I am looking forward to an amazing school year focusing on academic and social development. Together, we are going to learn and grow. I invite parents/guardians to join in our academic learning by talking to your child about what they learned each day. District 2905, 3rd grade curriculum is guided by Minnesota state standards. We will practice reading and language arts skills through the use of the “Daily 5”. The 5 areas of focus during this time include: reading to self, reading to someone, working on writing, listening to reading, and word work (spelling). During Math, I will be using a Guided Math approach which will include small group teaching to meet the needs of every student and will incorporate math games to help students practice each concept. Social Studies, and Science will be incorporated into our reading time as much as possible. There will be numerous Social Studies, Science and Writing, centers, and experiments. Flexible grouping and instruction is used in all 3rd grade subjects.
Homework will consist of completing a monthly reading log, math assignments, weekly spelling, and an occasional special assignment. It is expected that 3rd grade students READ 20 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT. Word work (spelling) quizzes will be on Fridays.
It is a pleasure to be part of District 2905. I grew up in the Montgomery area and am very excited to be back teaching here. I graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. This is my sixth year teaching third grade and I love every minute of it! When I am not teaching, I enjoy family time with husband Patrick, our children Harper and Lincoln, and our dog Milo. I enjoy being outdoors, reading, traveling, shopping, and anything that keeps me moving!
It is important to have generous communication throughout the school year. This will be done through daily signing of agendas, conferences, weekly newsletters, phone calls, and e-mails. Thank you for partnering with me to give your child the best education possible.
We are going to have a remarkable year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Brockway
